Lee Cronin's The Mummy (2026)
I didn't like it. But I wasn't expecting to. The movie was probably fine. It was well made and the pacing worked. The acting was a little bit bland, but it felt like that was intentional. I get that a lot of people feel very confused about this one, but it makes perfect sense as a usage of a classic monster. Vampires, zombies, and slimes have all had reboots where the monsters are genuinely scary and violently graphic so it's strange that people feel like The Mummy can't be just because everyone loved a Brendan Fraser movie from 40 years ago.
But I still didn't like it, because I just don't enjoy really intense gore very much and I left the theater feeling gross. But if that stuff doesn't bother you and you're not stuck on another version of The Mummy, then this one may work pretty well for you. Pretty well, but not great. It fails to transcend its style or genre.
