Pretty Woman - The Musical

Pretty Woman - The Musical will be playing at The Hobby Center in Houston, TX until January 8th and will continue to tour throughout the United States thereafter. The musical was written by Garry Marshall and J.F. Lawton (who wrote the original film). There is much to appreciate; the chemistry between the two lead actors among the entertaining narrative and catchy tunes will make for a perfect comedic heartfelt date night.

In 1980s Hollywood, a prostitute named Vivian Ward (Jessie Davidson) is paid by rich businessman Edward Lewis (Adam Pascal) to be his escort and stay with him for a week. Vivian is trusted with his credit card to find new clothes and attends various events with Edward throughout the week. The two slowly but surely start to develop feelings for eachother.

Music and Lyrics by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance work well in this production. Songs “Anywhere but here”, “Freedom” and “I Can’t Go Back” are three standout tracks that possess catchiness as well as advance the plot. I recommend giving these tracks, as well as the other songs on the musical soundtrack if you have the time, a listen on Spotify or Apple Music to see if you enjoy this rock pop genre the broadway boasts.

Pretty Woman is my partner’s favorite film and although we enjoyed this show, it did not surpass our appreciation for the film. Nonetheless, if you like the movie, you will more than likely enjoy the show, due to the sheer fact that the show stays very faithful to most of the film.

Final Verdict:The chemistry between the two lead actors among the entertaining narrative and catchy tunes will make for a perfect comedic heartfelt date night.
